The Architectural Heritage and Historic Monuments, Act 1999, defines the term "Architectural heritage" as,

"Structures and buildings together with their settings and attendant grounds, groups of such structures and buildings, and sites which are of architectural, historical, archaeological, artistic, cultural, scientific, social or technical interest"

Dúchas na Sionna intends to compile an extensive inventory of architectural heritage for Shannon and its environs.

The archaeological survey team is currently conducting audits on a townland by townland basis. Where appropriate architectural features will be included in this survey. The final report will include brief histories and photographs of the architectural features. For an inventory and details of this survey to date click here .
